Glossary
A comprehensive list of terms used throughout Giverr. Use your browser’s search (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to quickly find terms.
Active Event
Section titled “Active Event”An event that is currently in progress. Participants can view wishlists and make claims only while an event is active.
A user with administrative privileges in a Gift Group. Admins can manage members, change settings, and delete the group.
Archive
Section titled “Archive”When a wishlist becomes historical after its occasion date passes. Archived wishlists are still accessible but typically hidden from default views.
Birthday Leadtime
Section titled “Birthday Leadtime”The number of days before someone’s birthday that Gift Group members receive reminders. Default is 14 days.
Budget
Section titled “Budget”An optional spending limit for event participants. Helps coordinate spending and prevents over-gifting.
Canonical Gift
Section titled “Canonical Gift”Giverr’s data model where gifts are owned by users, not wishlists. A single gift can appear on multiple wishlists, and claims coordinate across all of them.
When a giver commits to purchasing a gift from someone’s wishlist. Claims are hidden from wishlist owners to preserve surprise.
Claim Status
Section titled “Claim Status”The lifecycle stage of a claim: To Buy → Purchased → Wrapped → Given.
Compact Mode
Section titled “Compact Mode”A display preference that reduces spacing in the interface, showing more items at once.
Coordination
Section titled “Coordination”When multiple givers can see each other’s claims to prevent duplicate purchases.
Dashboard
Section titled “Dashboard”The home screen that shows an overview of your wishlists, upcoming occasions, and activity.
Dream Gift
Section titled “Dream Gift”The highest priority level for a gift. Signals this is something you really hope to receive.
A time-bound occasion with its own invite system and optional budget tracking. Examples: “Office Secret Santa”, “Dad’s 60th Birthday”.
Expiration
Section titled “Expiration”When a share link stops working. Can be set to a specific date, after a certain number of views, or never.
Extraction
Section titled “Extraction”The automatic process of pulling product information (name, image, price) from a URL.
Family Profile
Section titled “Family Profile”A lightweight persona for someone without their own Giverr account. Managers can create and manage wishlists on their behalf.
An item on a wishlist that someone wants to receive.
Gift Group
Section titled “Gift Group”A permanent community for year-round wishlist sharing. Members can see each other’s wishlists and coordinate gift-giving.
Someone who views wishlists and claims gifts to purchase.
Historical Wishlist
Section titled “Historical Wishlist”A wishlist whose occasion date has passed. These are archived but still accessible.
Invite Code
Section titled “Invite Code”A unique code that allows someone to join a Gift Group or Event. Generated by admins or organizers.
Invite Link
Section titled “Invite Link”A URL containing an invite code that, when clicked, takes someone directly to the join flow.
Join Mode
Section titled “Join Mode”Controls how people can join a Gift Group: Open (anyone with link), Approval Required (admin must approve), or Invite Only (admin adds directly).
Manager
Section titled “Manager”A user who controls a Family Profile, able to create wishlists and manage gifts on behalf of the profile.
Metadata
Section titled “Metadata”Product information extracted from URLs: name, description, image, price, and source.
Disable notifications from a specific wishlist or Gift Group without leaving or unfollowing.
Private text attached to a claim. Only visible to the person who made the claim.
Occasion
Section titled “Occasion”The event or celebration a wishlist is created for (birthday, wedding, holiday, etc.).
The person who created a wishlist and will receive the gifts.
Participant
Section titled “Participant”Someone who has joined an event and can view event wishlists.
Privacy Model
Section titled “Privacy Model”Giverr’s core design principle where claim information is hidden from wishlist owners but visible to other givers.
Priority
Section titled “Priority”A gift’s importance level: Want, Really Want, or Dream Gift.
Profile
Section titled “Profile”Your personal information in Giverr: display name, avatar, birthday, and preferences.
Quantity
Section titled “Quantity”The number of a specific gift item requested. Givers can claim partial quantities.
Quiet Hours
Section titled “Quiet Hours”A notification setting that silences alerts during specified times.
Real-time Updates
Section titled “Real-time Updates”Instant synchronization of changes across all users. When someone claims a gift, others see it immediately.
Revoke
Section titled “Revoke”To cancel a share link so it no longer grants access.
Share Link
Section titled “Share Link”A unique URL that grants access to a wishlist. Can optionally expire.
Shopping List
Section titled “Shopping List”A personal view of all gifts you’ve claimed, organized for easy tracking.
Surprise Protection
Section titled “Surprise Protection”The system that ensures wishlist owners never see claim information.
The visual appearance of the app: light mode, dark mode, or system preference.
To Buy
Section titled “To Buy”The initial status of a claim, indicating the gift hasn’t been purchased yet.
Unclaim
Section titled “Unclaim”To release a claim, making the gift available for other givers.
View Count
Section titled “View Count”The number of times a share link has been accessed.
Viewer
Section titled “Viewer”Someone who can see a wishlist but doesn’t own it.
Wishlist
Section titled “Wishlist”A collection of gifts for a specific occasion.
Wrapped
Section titled “Wrapped”A claim status indicating the gift has been purchased and wrapped, ready to give.
